Goals

Project members work together to improve these profiles and project-protect them to ensure that merges on these profiles are done in the right direction. For those interested or curious here you can read:what protecting does and does not do
Any improvements you can make to the profiles of the South African Roots Project are welcome, but here are some specific goals we are working towards:
  1. All duplicates merged into lowest number, unless the correct LNAB has a higher number. See for more info about merging : Merging 'how and why in the lowest number'
  2. Final ID locked, marking the profile as project protected for the South African Roots Project this must be done by the ProjectLeader, if the profile meets those requirements.
  3. Parents are correct and documented, Children are linked if able
  4. Biography is cleaned up and ideally has an actual written biography. So biography cleaned up and written, using the WikiTree Style Guide (can work with Profile Improvement Project for help)
  5. For all profiles if they are not sourced and improved, please first start using our South African Roots (SAR) To Do Template System
  6. When a profile is ready (for example a Birth /Baptism record, some info added to the Bio and improved) You can add the South African Roots Project Template and for the Anglo Boer War Profiles the Anglo Boere Oorlog - Anglo Boer War 1899-1902 Template and proper Anglo Boere Oorlog Category
  7. biography cleaned up and written, using the WikiTree Style Guide (can work with Profile Improvement Project for help /link to SA help page )
  8. If needed, PPP added and Project Profile Account added as a trusted list member or manager
  9. Attached family meets these goals, too
  10. Attached to the main WikiTree family tree (ask the Connectors Project for help)

To-Do or Task List

To participate in the project, we have a list of tasks that we need accomplished.:
1. Primary task for all project members is to review/ improve/ source all profiles of people who were born in South Africa (or ancestors, descendants) including your own and to (if not yet categorized / templated by another project !) add the proper South African Roots template or categories
you can all already start and add profiles to the project, just copy and paste to the top of the Bio of all SAR Project profiles this category : [[Category:South_African_Roots]] and use our South African Roots (SAR) To Do Template System .
For the finished profiles, (improved and sourced) please add the Anglo Boer War Project Box, which is added like this:
just copy and paste {{Anglo Boer War}} to the top of the Bio of the finished profile and save . (only if there's not a template of a different project added yet, for those always ask in G2G first or add just the category)
2. We of course also need your help with this task ! If you manage or come across South African Proifles that still need sources please add:
{{Unsourced|South Africa}} if there are no sources at all and...
3. If you need your Anglo Boer War Project profiles PPP't, after you sourced and improved them and if you have a good source for the LNAB, or if profiles need to be PPP 't temporarily and before they are finished for some reason. This is what you need to do :
Add this [[Category:South African Roots Project Needs PPP]] (just copy and paste) to the top of the Bio of the profile by this the profiles are added here, and if there's something special we need to know or do, please leave a clear post at the profile and we will make sure they get PPP.
Note: We don't want or need to PPP all profiles, if last names are consistent and used in the same spelling for many generations and if there's no risk a profile is duplicated a lot and if there's no confusion about the name or the parents, or some other urgent reason why the LNAB needs to be protected, we don't have to PPP it. For those, if you want to make sure the profile will always be 'protected', you can add the project profile as manager, this is also a great way of profile protection, because we all can watch over them together and we all will receive and can watch the project feed trough the project google group. So make sure you join. Send a request to join the group here Anglo Boer War Google Group
4. If your profiles are ready and PPP't by the project and also if you need help and want to reduce the amount of profiles you're managing, you can add the project profile as manager and remove yourself if you like or need to, this way you know for sure the profile is always taken care of and will be watched over/worked on by the project members.
Also an option, in case you want to stay on as manager, is to just add the project profile as additional manager and move yourself to the trusted list or just stay manager.
(for popular profiles/or early ancestors shared by many members, WT policy is to only have two or three active managers, preferred is/are project profile(s) and one or perhaps two active project members and all others move themselves to the trusted list or if they want to reduce the amount of profiles they are managing can remove themselves )
This is how you can add the Project Profile as manager:
1.Click the Privacy tab on these South African profiles.
2. In the Add to Trusted List section, enter:
wikitrees-anglo-boer-war-project@googlegroups.com and press Add this Person
3. To add the Anglo Boer War Project as manager:
In the Trusted List section, press Add as Manager.
